On the weekend I went to see my Country, it was nice and green. So glad to see the birds. Different kinds of birds. Lyerrtjina (budgies), lhump-lhumpa (black faced wood swallow), nyingka (zebra finch) and elintja (galah). Most of alI I see elintja everywhere, all the time, they everywhere. When I was looking at the birds I saw erritja (wedge-tailed eagle) trying for fish. Awa (yes), he caught fish, intapitnya (bony bream fish) the big silver one. And it was good to see the waterhole still full there in my Country. Saw some little ducks, wangkara (Pacific black duck), swimming around too.

Donna McNamara was born between Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and Mparntwe (Alice Springs). She grew up at her outstation and went to school at Kulpitarra. Donna joined Hermannsburg Potters in in April 2023 where she has been learning from her mother-in-law, senior artist Anita Ratara, and sisters-in-law Hayley and Alisha Coulthard. Despite only recently joining Hermannsburg Potters Donna has shown immediate talent as a lively potter, painter and exciting emerging artist. Donna’s work was exhibited in Desert Mob 2023 where it was acquired by Araluen Art Centre. Donna was a finalist in the 2024 Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize in the Indigenous Emerging Artist category.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.
