We mix ashes from the bark of the gumtree with wild tobacco, making ‘pituri’. We chew it for a while and then keep it in our mouth. This is bush medicine. It can help with hunger, concentration and energy.

I have six brothers and sister, I am number 4. My sister Vanessa Inkamala and Reinhold Inkamala are both painters at the art centre. A long time ago I used to do dot painting and I used to paint on silk. I like learning to paint with watercolours and I will try to become a professional artist.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
