This paintng is about the country called Kuru Ala, I’ve been there with my grandmother and other women before – it’s a special country only for women. My grandmother would say; ‘You can go there and travel through the area, but you shouldn’t stop there, its just to visit. It’s a special place where young girls go to become women, they can have special inma (ceremonies) there and have a time for healing’.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
