Fiona Pompey captures the vibrancy and colour of the desert landscape in her paintings. The ridges of sandhills typical of the desert country around Kaltjiti, make reference to her mother’s work of tali (sandhills). The small, rounded shapes reflect the habitat of shrubs, trees and bushes. These grow on the sides and at the base of the sandhill where the water collects. They provide a valuable source of many food bearing grasses and shrubs.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
