Alye (boomerang) is used by men for hunting and fighting or to beat the rhythm to accompany singing.

I grew up my whole life in Santa Teresa (Ltyentye Apurte). The fellas working at the Traditional Craft Centre encouraged me to join them, to learn how to make the weapons and the other craft items. I like coming to work every morning, I like working with the wood, to see how something starts as a just a piece of wood, but ends up as a weapon, or a coolamon that could be used for a baby. It is interesting how one tree is so different to another tree, and each item comes out differently. I like being able to learn the ways of making the craft items, using the ways of the old people.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.
