Tali tjuta (many sandhills) are depicted in the artist’s ngurra (country or camp). This is a sacred area where minyma (women) perform inma (women’s ceremonies involving dancing and singing). This design takes an aerial view of the landscape.

Selinda Davidson was born in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) where she went to primary school. As a teenager she moved to Irruntyju and then Pipalyatjara. After Selinda finished school, she became a member of Ninuku Arts, painting regularly as well as serving as an art worker. Selinda used to work alongside her grandparents Jimmy Donegan and Molly Miller at Ninuku Arts and has learned from them how to paint tjukurpa and translate story into her design. Her family’s country is in Warburton.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
