Marie Shilling has lived in and around the Titjikala region for most of her life and commenced painting in 2002. Marie is known for her work that provides a unique cultural and historical perspective of Aboriginal life in Central Australia.

Marie’s representations are inspired by her immediate environment characterized by red sand hills, desert oaks and rocky ridges. She utilises a full colour palette with lively hues of violet, blue and yellow, capturing the broad range of brilliant colours reflected by the land, its’ seasons and the local flora and fauna. In addition to painting, Marie also works with ceramics, etchings, batik, and carves intricate punu from local mulga trees.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
