Mingkiri is the Pitjantjatjara term for the various species of small burrowing mice found in the desert where they live. A small number of these species have pouches like kangaroos. Traditionally, the mingkiri were dug out of their burrows by the women, to be cooked and eaten.

Angela Burton lives in Amata with her family and paints at Tjala Arts. She is the daughter of prolific late artist Kunmanara (Wawiriya) Burton and like her mother, Angela paints her country, the APY Lands. A successful artist in her own right, Angela also works collaboratively on large-scale canvases with the Burton Women Collaborative.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
