Stephanie Yukenbarri has painted some of her grandmother’s country south of Balgo in the Great Sandy Desert. This country is named Winpurpurla after the tjurrnu (soakwater). Winpurpurla is an inta, or ‘living water’ place so it always has good water. Women travel to Winpurpurla to collect a variety of seeds including lukarrari which is ground to make damper as well as kumpupatja (bush tomato) and karnti (bush potato). Stephanie has depicted the country alive with wildflowers as represented by the smaller dots.

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.

On behalf of Desart’s staff and art centre members, the Executive Committee humbly and respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte Apmereke Artweye (Traditional Owners) and Kwertengerle (Traditional Managers) of Mparntwe.
