Grace Kemarre Robinya

Grace Kemarre Robinya was born in Ntaria (Hermannsburg), and currently resides in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), where she has painted with Tangentyere Artists since 2006. Robinya is renowned for her figurative paintings which are often near-miniatures featuring her signature clouds and accompanying sheets of rain.

Through these works she narrates a lifetime of experiences, including her early years spent at the Hermannsburg Mission, with frequent trips to Irremangkere (Running Waters), her mother’s Country. Robinya also paints of her later life spent at the Coniston and Napperby pastoral stations, where she and her husband worked as a domestic, and ringer respectively, while raising their family. A frequent return visitor to Laramba Aboriginal Community now established on Napperby Station, Robinya also documents exciting football and softball carnivals in which her grandsons and granddaughters play for the winning Anmatyerr teams.

Robinya’s work is held by the Art Gallery of South Australia and Artbank as well as the Macquarie Group and Slattery Collections. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally and was the winner of the Vincent Lingiari Art Award (2021).
