This is Pangkalangka from Palm Valley. She looking for bush tucker and looking for withcetty grubs. She walk around looking for bush tucker. Pangkalangka is boogey women, she is staying in little intia (cave) inside parta (rocks). She stay at little home for Pangkalangka – pmara ikurra. She is watching from her little pmara (home), relha katjia mapa arrtjika karalhama (watching out for Aboriginal people coming with their kids). Watching to get them kids, baby or little girl or boy and take them away. They was scared. Relha (Aboriginal people) they hide the kids, if they’re sleeping outside they hide them sleeping in the middle or in little tent or they go home before dark time. On the dark time Pangkalangka cry for kids. But this time Pangkalangka found only bush foods. This is our country, me and my cousin Anita (another Hermannsburg Potter) up at Palm Valley with the palm trees.

 

Michelle Pareroultja was born in Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and grew up in the community and on her mother’s father’s outstation. Michelle joined Hermannsburg Potters in October 2023. She is a talented painter and has brought her existing skills as an artist to her work at the Pottery. 

Desert Mob is presented annually in Mparntwe | Alice Springs on Arrernte Country.
